SELF CARE SERIES: EXERCISING
Welcome to the last installment of my journey to better self-care. To recap my self-care journey, I am doing a series of different self-care practices that I have been wanting to try and reviewing how well they work for me. I've talked about my new habit of journaling and incorporating more quiet time in my life. This time, I would like to talk about incorporating exercise.
Why you should try it
Endorphins! To quote Elle Woods, "Endorphins make you happy; Happy people just don't shoot their husbands." While this statement is a bit excessive, endorphins are chemicals that your body releases when you exercise. They also help reduce stress.
Another added bonus of exercising is the toning that can occur when you are working out. While that is a great bonus, it's not the only reason why I exercise. It helps to clear my head, focus, and reduce my stress and anxiety.
Things to remember
Do the exercise/workout that interests you. If you hate running, try cycling. If you hate yoga, do Pilates. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it's something that you want to do. No point in doing an exercise that's not something you want to do. Doing something that does not interest you will not keep you motivated to keep going.
No one is perfect, thus there is no such thing as the perfect body. My goal is to be healthy and not skinny. Another critical thing to remember is to keep going! There will be days when you don't want to do anything; push yourself and do it anyways. When you are able to push yourself on your off days, you'll find that you feel better knowing that you can conqueror anything.
Thank you for following me on my journey to self-care. Remember, when it comes to self-care, it should involve something that makes you feel comfortable and actually helps you relax.
Until next time,
