THE PERFECT SKIRT

Mini skirts and sneakers have been my entire mood this summer. But I’m not going to lie; I used to think skirts were off limits to me. All of us curvy girls know the short skirt struggle. Take two steps, pull down skirt. Take two more steps, pull down skirt again. It’s the most annoying thing ever. Pulling down skirts was even used in a song to show how someone can hold you down in a relationship. Go listen to Short Skirt by Mr Eazi. As nice as that song is, constantly adjusting your outfit is not. But this summer I found sweet relief in my mini skirts.

Not every mini skirt does the same thing, so it’s important to know which ones to pick out. First thing to remember is, make sure you’re comfortable rocking the mini. I typically DIY my mini skirts so I can choose what length I want. My magic length is not too close to the knees, but not short enough to where you think you’re about to see my business. Next, make sure the fabric is heavy. Cotton skirts are comfy and lightweight, but a heavier fabric will minimize you pulling on your skirt.

Now it’s time for the biggest of keys when picking out your skirt. If you want that skirt to stay down then it cannot be skintight. The second you take a step in a fitted skirt, its riding all the way to you bottom. So if it fits at the waist, the rest of the fabric should hover over the hips, then go straight down. Combine all of these and you have a perfect skirt! I got my skirt from a thrift store. It was originally a size 18 skirt from Lane Bryant. But I brought the hem up, and took the sides in. I paired it with a DIY cropped button up. All I did was cut off the bottom half of the shirt. And the final touch were my high top AF 1’s. How would you rock your mini?
